FAQs

Straight answers.

Six common questions. Clear, practical answers.

How much can I borrow?

Your borrowing power depends on your income, expenses, existing debts, deposit and the lender’s servicing criteria. Different lenders can assess the same situation differently. Pinnacle Mortgages can assess your position, compare suitable lenders and give you a clearer idea of what may be achievable before you start making offers.

Do I need a 20% deposit to buy a home?

Not always. While a 20% deposit can give you more lending options, there are pathways available for some borrowers with smaller deposits. Your options will depend on your circumstances, the property and the lender’s criteria. We can help you understand which options may be available to you.

Can Pinnacle get me a better option than going directly to my bank?

Potentially. Your current bank is only able to offer its own lending products and criteria. Pinnacle Mortgages can consider options across a range of banks and specialist lenders to find a lending solution suited to your circumstances. Sometimes your existing bank may still be the right option.

Can you help if my bank has already said no?

Potentially. A decline from one bank does not necessarily mean every lender will reach the same decision. Lending criteria vary between banks and specialist lenders. We can review why the application was declined and determine whether another approach or lender may be appropriate.

Should I refix, refinance or stay with my current lender?

It depends on more than just the interest rate. We can look at your current lending, upcoming fixed-rate expiry, loan structure, available rates, potential fees or break costs, cashback implications and what other lenders may offer. From there, we can help you compare the options before you decide.

How much does it cost to use Pinnacle Mortgages?

In most cases, we do not charge you a fee for our mortgage advice because we usually receive a commission from the lender when your loan settles. There are some circumstances where a fee may apply, and these will be explained and agreed with you where applicable. Full details are available in our Disclosure Statement.
